Rhea Margery Brannian Light, age 95, died on Wednesday September 15, 2021 at St. Francis Manor Grinnell, IA.
Rhea was born January 24, 1926 near Brooklyn, IA to Cecil Brannian and Eva Lucille Fraser Brannian. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1943 and continued her education at Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines.
On August 3, 1946 she married Dr. Henry Raymond Light, Jr., in Brooklyn, IA. They resided in Iowa City and Youngstown, OH before settling in Grinnell in 1954. They raised two daughters, Sara and Susan and one son, John.
Rhea was a 64-year member of chapter JB PEO; a 70-year member of the United Methodist Church, serving on the fundraising committee; a member of Grinnell Golf and Country Club; St. Francis Manor Board Member; St. Francis Manor Foundation Board Member; American Legion Auxiliary member. She also belonged to Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, was a Poweshiek County Reach to Recovery volunteer; as well as a 56-year breast cancer survivor.
Rhea enjoying spending time with her family, golfing, playing bridge in her many bridge clubs, cross stitching, needlepointing, vacationing in Palm Desert, CA and dancing with Raymond.
Rhea was a loving mother, nana and G-Nana, always wanting more for her children than she had as a child of the depression. She was a kind and thoughtful friend to so many.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Raymond, son, John, parents, and sister, Ruth Scroggs.
She is survived by daughters, Sara (Tim) Pearson of Urbandale and Susie (Al) Chingren of Lenexa, KS; grandsons, Matthew, Jonathan (Anne), Scott (Megan) Pearson; Christopher (Abbey) and Adam (Lauren) Chingren; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Landon, Stella, Hayes and Brooks Pearson and Phoebe Chingren.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday September 29, 2021 11:00 am at the Grinnell United Methodist Church. A luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Manor, or Grinnell United Methodist Church.
