Raymond L. Haines, 73, of Gilman, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services for Mr. Haines will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Susan Leathen, Chaplain of Grinnell Regional Hospice, officiating. Pallbearers will be Jack Delk, Rusty Ervin, Bill Haines, Jr., Gerald Haines, Jim Haines, and Sam Huff. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home and where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Raymond L. Haines Memorial Fund. The son of Andrew and Pearl Otto Haines, he was born January 4, 1933, in Deep River, Iowa. He was raised in Grinnell and attended school there. Following his education he was employed for several years at the Grinnell Shoe Factory. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Korea. On July 4, 1956, he was married to Avis Crockett in Grinnell. The couple made their home in Grinnell prior to moving to Gilman in 1961. He was employed for 40 years at the Donaldson Company in Grinnell and retired in 1995. Survivors include his wife, Avis of Gilman; one daughter, Joyce Haines of Grinnell; one son, Russell Haines of Marshalltown; one sister, Betty Kelm of Grinnell; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Connie Haines; four brothers, John, Wallace, Ralph and Bill Haines; and four sisters, Hazel Haines, Zella Delk, Fern Freeborn, and Catherine Akers.
