Rachel Crawford, 86, of Grinnell, died on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. A luncheon will follow at the Elks in Grinnell.
The family will receive family and friends at the visitation held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at the Smith Funeral Home.
Memorials may be designated to the Grinnell Volunteer Fire Department and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with Rachel's family online at www.smithfh.com.
Rachel Rebecca Innis was born on May 23, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa, the beloved daughter of Tilford and Mary (Koger) Innis. She was raised in Grinnell, where she attended Grinnell High School.
On May 21, 1955, she married Delbert Crawford at the Northside Friends Church in Grinnell. Their union was blessed with four children: Delbert, Diane, David, and Brian. Together, Rachel and Delbert raised their family in Grinnell, fostering a home filled with love, faith, and warmth.
In her younger years, Rachel worked at the Glove Factory in Grinnell. Later, her compassionate spirit led her to a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Friendship Manor, St. Francis Manor, and the Mayflower Community, where she cared for others with kindness and dedication.
Rachel was a devoted member of the Church of the Nazarene, where her faith and love of music shone brightly as she played the piano for services. Her deep love for her family and strong faith were the cornerstones of her life. Known for her graciousness, caring nature, and strong will, Rachel kept an impeccably tidy home and took great pride in her surroundings. She found joy in simple pleasures, such as going for bike rides and spending time with her loved ones.
Rachel is survived by her children, Diane (Rick) Dillon of Searsboro, David (Jill) Crawford of Grinnell, and Brian (Vicki) Crawford of Newburg; her grandchildren, Justin Dillon, Jeff (Angie) Dillon, Jarod (Kelly) Dillon, Vanessa Crawford, JJ (Meghan Stewart), Wyatt Crawford, Tuesday Crawford, Holli Cushman, Jesse Cushman, Lora Stevens, and Mike Bown; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Norma Innis; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert in 2006; son, Delbert in 2020, and his wife Karen in 2017; siblings Russell Innis, Harold Innis, Hazel Innis, Ruth Burr, Mary Loupee, Bernice Williams, Charles Innis and Tilford Innis Jr.
