Obituary

Preston Shaw, 76, of Malcom, died June 2, 2015, at his home. A prayer service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 8th at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Christine Pauley, Malcom United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Ivy Hill Cemetery Association. Preston was born August 11, 1938, in Malcom, the son of Price and Sylvia Dykes Shaw. He was raised in Malcom and was a 1956 graduate of Malcom High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving with the 818th Operations Squadron. He was employed for many years at Donaldson Company in Grinnell and for several years in the 1980's he owned and operated the Montezuma Tap. He was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Club, Grinnell Elks Lodge and the Masons, Poweshiek Lodge #174 and Grand Lodge of Iowa A.F. and A.M. Preston loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, fishing trips to Minnesota with family and friends and mowing. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed all the family celebrations and gatherings. Survivors include his sister, Mertie Kinnard of East Dubuque; seven nieces and nephews, Tim Kinnard of East Dubuque, Curt (Jill) Kinnard of Tiffin, Jim (Marcia) Puls of Grinnell, Dale (Cathy) Puls of Grinnell, Gary Puls of Grinnell, Shirley (Reed) Hoeppner of Marengo and Linda (Dan) Baumgartner of Readlyn; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bill Shaw; and one sister, Sybil Puls.
