Pete Bazyn, 67, of Deep River, died on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at St. John's Lutheran Church south of Victor. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.

His family will receive friends for the visitation held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor.

Gary Paul "Pete" Bazyn was born the son of Maurice Arthur Bazyn and Shirley Ann (Gensley) Bazyn on October 1, 1955 in Grinnell, Iowa. He was raised in Victor and graduated from HLV High School in Victor with the class of 1973.

Pete owned and operated Gary Bazyn Trucking and worked for several area businesses such as Farmhand in Grinnell, Derby gas station, MidAmerican, Solar Homes, and retired from Harden Brothers Propane in Victor in 2022. He was an outdoorsman, who loved to go deer hunting, fishing, and taking Ranger rides with his dog and companion, Daisy. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren. His enjoyments were camping, gardening, and going on golf vacations. He will be remembered as a hard-worker, for being ornery, and being dependable.

Pete is survived by his fiancé, Paulette Claypool of Deep River; his children, Peter Bazyn of Hornbeak, Tennessee, Ryan Bazyn of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Danielle Claypool of Deep River; granddaughters, Kendall Bazyn and Mia Matteson; brothers, Richard (Jane) Bazyn and Dan (Theresa) Bazyn, both of Victor; nieces, Sara (Pat) Herman, Jessie (Tim) Davis, Danette (Dan) Meyer; and his nephew, Derec (Shannon) Bazyn. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his dog, Daisy.
