Pearl
Saurer
June 19, 1946 – September 3, 2024
Pearl K (Haines) Saurer, age 78, of Hale, Michigan, passed away peacefully in her home on 3 September 2024. She was surrounded by loved ones as she left this earthly world to join her beloved Rudolph "Rudy." K, "it's just the letter K, no period," was born 19 June 1946 in Grinnell, Iowa to Luvica Flathers and William Haines Sr., was a graduate of Grinnell High School, and attended Assembly of God Church in Grinnell. She married the love of her life, Rudy, on 4 May 1970. K was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, Grandmother, Godmother, and friend. To all that she loved, they knew and never doubted that they were treasured and adored.
While K spent most of her adult life as a homemaker, she was also a Veteran of the United States Air Force, worked at Pizza Inn in Belleville, NE, and Sears in Cheyenne, WY. After her children graduated high school, she decided to join the work force again and became a long-haul team truck driver with her husband Rudy and drove with CR England. He called her "2nd Log" and she hung pretty homemade curtains in their now "shared" truck; we all deemed it a fair trade. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, putting puzzles together, and playing card/board games. K's heart was full, and she smiled the most when she spent time with her family, friends, children, grandchildren, and her "angel."
She is survived by her children, son John Saurer (Colleen), of Hale, MI; daughter Pamela Smallwood, of O'Fallon, IL; step-daughters Anita Earles, of Amarillo, TX; Rebecca Rodriguez of Emporia, KS; and S'Quetta Lehman (Brian), of Amarillo, TX; brothers, Jim Haines (Cindy) of Grinnell, IA; Gerald Haines (Gayl), of Ellis KS; sisters, Luvica Ervin, of Tama, IA; Rosie Duncan, of Grinnell, IA; brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Sue) Saurer, of Clitherall, MN; Melvin Saurer, of Clarissa, MN; and sisters-in-law, Betty (Al) Woida, of Eagle Bend, MN; Kathy Saurer, of Elizabeth, MN; Eunice (George) Woida, of Urbank, MN, and Loraine (Steve) Martineau, of Alexandria, MN. She is also survived by many, and we mean many, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, nephews, and Peanut the dog. K was preceded in death by both her parents; her husband, Rudolph "John" Saurer, brothers, William Haines Jr and Chet Haines; sister Wanda Haines, brothers-in-law, Arthur (Rusty) Ervin, Leroy Hanson, Russell Saurer, Harland Saurer, and Wesley Saurer; and sisters-in-law Vickie Haines, and Carol Hanson.
Momma was a patriot through and through. She loved our great nation, our service members, and any who served in a capacity for the greater good. Momma had a huge passion for helping our wounded warriors as she and her husband (and many family members) served our great nation with honor. As such, in lieu of flowers, please donate your time or money to projects/organizations in your local community that help wounded warriors/veterans in need. A private family committal service will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, Iowa where K will be laid to rest beside her loving husband Rudy.
