Pauline Frances Walford Pugh Cram, 83, of Grinnell, died Sunday, November 7, 2004, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell after a prolonged illness with colon cancer.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, the Rev. Len Eberhart, presiding. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell United Methodist Church.
The daughter of Bert Nathan and Eva Shuler Walford of Brooklyn, Iowa, Pauline was born August 8, 1921, in Grinnell. She was a 1939 graduate of Brooklyn High School. She enlisted in the WAVES in 1943, trained in New York City, and was stationed at the Washington (DC) Navy Yard. She was married to US Navy Ensign Clarence F. (Don) Pugh on Sept. 3, 1943 in Washington, DC and left the WAVES in 1944. They lived in New York, Hawaii, Alaska, Maryland, and the Philippine Islands before settling in Grinnell in 1957. Clarence Pugh died in 1965. Pauline worked for Grinnell College until her retirement in 1983. She was married to LaVaughn (Bonnie) Cram on February 13, 1982, in Grinnell where they continued to reside. Bonnie Cram died October 9, 2004, in Grinnell.
Pauline was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church since 1959. She was a volunteer with the Grinnell Regional Medical Center gift shop. She loved to travel, traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Pugh (Janet) of Madison, Wisconsin and Donn Pugh (Susan) of Warrenville, Illinois; one brother, Stanley Walford of Brooklyn; four grandchildren, Karen, Brian, Sarah, and Dana Pugh; two step-daughters, Judith Anothayanontha of Wichita Falls, Texas and Rebecca Hutchison (David) of Marshalltown; two step-sons, Cdr. Phillip Cram (Marilyn) of Atlanta, Georgia and Jeffery Cram (Turien) of Mons, Belgium; and 10 step-grandchildren, Amy, Addy, Marc, Mike, Aaron, Lawun, Juree, Ryan, Whitney, and Salina. She was preceded in death by her parents; both her first and second husbands, and one brother, Darwin Walford.
