Obituary

Pauline was born the daughter of Allen and Ellen Hendrickson Lang on March 15, 1915, in Brooklyn, Iowa.' She was raised on the family farm and was educated at country schools near her home.' She received her teacher's certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. ' She was united in marriage to Elwood F. Burlingame on June 5, 1939, at her parent's home near Brooklyn.' To this union were born their children Roger, Marilyn and Raymond.' The couple farmed north of Brooklyn and then east of Grinnell for 25 years before moving to Grinnell in 1972.' Pauline was a homemaker and also was a secretary in the Grinnell School system for twelve years.' ' Pauline was a woman of strong faith and this was reflected through her involvement for many years at the Grinnell Christian Church.' She was active in Farm Bureau and was a member of Grinnell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.' She was an excellent cook and enjoyed crocheting and needlework. ' Pauline is survived by her son Roger Burlingame of Orem, Utah; 3 grandchildren, Larry (Laura) of Orem, Utah, Lowell of Gray, Louisiana, and Lani (Simon) Tarr of Gray, Louisiana; 7 great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Susan Burlingame of Iowa City, Iowa, and a brother Wallace (Lucille) Lang of West Des Moines, Iowa.' ' ' Pauline passed away Saturday, November 17, 2007, at the Mayflower Homes Health Care Center in Grinnell. She was 92 years of age and was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elwood on February 16, 1988; her daughter Marilyn Burlingame on May 27, 1949; and her son Raymond Burlingame on February 17, 2007. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Pauline L. Burlingame Memorial Fund to benefit organizations of the family's choice.
