Obituary

Paulette Knoll, age 73, of Altoona and formerly of Gilman, died on Thursday, January 16, 2020 in Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, January 24th at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor John Epperson and Craig Stadtmueller officiating. Interment will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 23rd at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and her family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Memorials may be designated to Please Pass the Love in Paulette Knoll's honor. This is a Des Moines based organization whose vision is to empower school communities to embrace and sustain mental health and wellness supports for their students. Please mail in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Paulette Elizabeth Peak was born on February 28, 1946 in Grinnell, Iowa to Edward and Evelyn (Miller) Peak. She was raised on the family farm near Gilman, Iowa and she graduated from Gilman High School in 1964. Paulette was united in marriage to Richard Knoll on December 2, 1966 at Grinnell Christian Church in Grinnell, IA. The couple was blessed with four children, Carrie, Jennifer, Jenna and Matthew. They resided southeast of Gilman and Paulette was a homemaker and had various jobs throughout the years. She was a longtime member of the Grinnell Christian Church and after moving to Waukee, Iowa in 2002, she attended the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. Paulette dearly loved her family and her grandchildren brought her so much joy. Her enjoyments were going to dances, baking, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for being a good friend to many, for her strong faith, and for the love of her family. Paulette is survived by her children, Carrie (Eric) Ingvall of Grimes, Iowa, Jenna Hyatt of Olathe, Kansas, and Matt (Andrea) Knoll of Ankeny, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Mya and Kaylee Ingvall, Gabe and Ellie Hyatt, and Grady and Charlie Knoll; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jennifer Lee Knoll; three sisters, Katherine Sturtz, Carolyn Stadtmueller and Sandy Tokle; brother, Edward Lee Peak; brothers-in-law, Vernon Sturtz and Ray Tokle; and nephew, Greg Sturtz.
