Patty Haines, age 65, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at her home while under the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice and with her family by her side. A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 14th at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A private family graveside service will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. A reception will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the family home; located at 1432 Prince Street in Grinnell. Memorials may be designated to the Patty Haines Memorial Fund, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Patricia Mae Blagden was born on Friday, June 1, 1951, in Grinnell, Iowa to Roy Richard Blagden and Shirley Colleen (Clark) Blagden. She was raised and educated in Grinnell. Patty was united in marriage to Roger Dennis Haines on July 31, 1965, at the Assembly of God Church in Grinnell. The couple was blessed with three daughters, Dorothy "Dee Dee", Patricia "Trisha" and Margaret "Maggie." They moved to Montour, Iowa in 1968, and returned back to Grinnell in 1980. Patty was a longtime employee of 25 years at McNally's grocery store in Grinnell, retiring in 2004. Patty held a strong love for her family and enjoyed every minute spent with her grandchildren. She was a dedicated Days of Our Lives and Young and the Restless soap opera fan and never missed an episode. When she wasn't catching up on her soaps, she watched Blue Bloods episodes and cooking shows on TV. Her other enjoyments included solving word searches, playing memory games on her computer, and playing Donkey Kong and Super Mario Brothers with her granddaughter on the PlayStation. Patty is survived by her daughters, Trisha (Jim) Robinson of Grinnell and Maggie Haines of Lynnville; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two brothers, Duane (Pam) Blagden of Grinnell and David Blagden of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 50 years, Roger in 2004; daughter, Dee Dee in 2007; and sister, Sandra Roop.
