Patricia Ann Martin was born the daughter of Pierce Wright Martin and Aagot (Wangberg) Martin on August 22, 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa. She was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Sioux City East High School with the class of 1948.

Pat was united in marriage to Virgil Leroy Groth on September 20, 1948 in Sioux City. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Tom and Jerry, and a daughter, Pamela. For most of her life, Pat was a homemaker and mother. She did work for WNAX radio station in Yankton, South Dakota during her first few years of marriage. The family moved to Grinnell, Iowa in 1962. Pat worked at the Stewart Library in Grinnell for over 20 years and in retirement, she volunteered countless hours at Grinnell Reginal Medical Center and at the Mayflower Community in Grinnell. Pat and Virgil were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell.

Pat was a true music enthusiast, sharing that passion with others by teaching piano to aspiring youth, including her kids. Pat was a member of the local bell choir and regularly attended and participated in local plays and productions.

Beyond music and the arts, Pat had a heart for social programs, working tirelessly to support and uplift the community. Pat's kindness and leadership shone brightly as an activity coordinator at the Mayflower Community, ensuring residents enjoyed a vibrant and fulfilling lifestyle. The family has especially fond memories of road trips to California where they would vacation with Pat's sister, Fran and her family. The ultimate family trip was to Europe, where the family spent time with Gabi and Walter Stadler. Gabi was an Austrian AFS student, who lived with the Groth's from 1971 – 1972. Pat and her family enjoyed hosting Gabi and her family in their homes and visiting Europe on other occasions throughout the subsequent years. After retirement, Virgil and Pat enjoyed traveling and participating in social clubs and spending time with their children and grandchildren. For a few years they spent part of their winter in Arizona enjoying outdoor activities with other Grinnellians.

Patricia is survived by her children, Tom (Jeannie) Groth of Spicer, MN, Pamela (Jerry) Stieneke of Sioux City, IA and Jerry (Kathy) Groth of Madison, WI; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and three nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil Groth in 2015; and her sister, Frances Briden.
