Orville Keith Hafkey was born the son of Louis and Maude Muriel Pugh Hafkey on January 14, 1915 in Grinnell, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm and was educated at rural schools near his home. He graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1933. He was united in marriage to Harriet Evelyn Berry on December 3, 1938, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. To this union were born their children, Marianne, Richard and George. The couple resided in the Chester Township northeast of Grinnell, where they farmed and raised livestock. Orville was a life-long farmer on family farm, which is now in its third generation in the Hafkey family. His enjoyments woodworking, attending the Iowa State Fair, and taking fishing trips annually to Minnesota. Orville is survived by his wife of 69 years, Harriett Hafkey of Grinnell; his children, Marianne Huennekens of Noble, Oklahoma, and George (Barb) Hafkey of Grinnell; 7 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. Orville was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard Hafkey in 1967; and his sisters, Louise Clifton and Marjorie Thompson. Memorials may be directed to the Poweshiek County Fairgrounds.
