Obituary

Onno was born on May 1, 1921 in Green City, Missouri to Frank and Frona Hunsaker Guy. He was raised in Green City and graduated from Green City High School. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army Air Corp in China, Burma and India. On July 3, 1946, he was married to Marcille Shoop in Newtown, Missouri. The couple lived in Green City and he worked as a meat cutter for local food businesses and he also worked for the MFA. The family moved to Ames and he worked in the meat department for Super Valu Foods, Inc and Hy-Vee Foods, Inc. In 1970 the couple moved to Grinnell and he was employed for Hy-Vee Food Store's meat department until his retirement in 1987. Onno was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Marcille Guy of Grinnell; one daughter, Jennifer (Billy) Gilbreaith of Grinnell; two sons, Terry (Kristi) Guy of Colo and Jeff (Chris) Guy of Monticello; and six grandchildren, Travis and Tyler Guy of Colo, Bryan Gilbreaith of Ames, Julie Gilbreaith of Grinnell; Emily and Aaron Guy of Monticello. Memorials may be directed to the Grinnell Christian Church or to Grinnell Regional Hospice and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
