Obituary for Colleen Rhae Keenan

Colleen R. Keenan, 88, of Grinnell died on July 28, 2018, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service and burial has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31st, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with Rev. Harley Schull, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Pallbearers will be Terry Montgomery, Jeff Sears, Todd Sears, Pat O’Hara, Jerry Keenan, and Chuck Stevens.

Memorial contributions may be designated to Grinnell Regional Hospice.

Colleen was born on January 12, 1930, in Grinnell, the daughter of Clyde Noel and Roxie E. Hall O’Hara. She was raised in Grinnell and later Vinton for several years prior to returning to Grinnell. She received her education in the Grinnell School District.

In 1947, she was united in marriage with Clarence Innis in Grinnell and they were later divorced in 1955. On June 18, 1960, she was united in marriage with Maurice “Mike” Keenan, in Marshalltown. The couple continued to make their home in Grinnell.

Colleen was employed with the Grinnell Shoe Factory, Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg, and with the Grinnell Hospital. In 1973, she began working in the Housekeeping Department at Grinnell College. She retired from the college in 1992. She then started volunteering at Friendship Manor in Grinnell and that turned into a full time job for several years.

Colleen held a strong love for her family and she enjoyed sharing her time with her grandchildren. She was a very caring person. She loved to cook, particularly around the holidays, crochet, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed her weekend trips in Iowa and Missouri, attending Flea Markets and craft shows.

She is survived by her two daughters, Melody Montgomery and Michelle (Jeff) Sears, both of Grinnell; three grandchildren, Terry Montgomery of Grinnell Tiffany Sears of Grinnell and Todd Sears of Des Moines; and one great-granddaughter, Charlie Stevens. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first and second husbands; a son-in-law, Terry Montgomery; two brothers, Richard and Thomas O’Hara; and her sister, Karen Stevens.
