Obituary

Norma was born on November 26, 1924, on the family farm near Brooklyn, Iowa to John and Della Smith Patten. She was raised in the Brooklyn area and graduated from Brooklyn High School with the Class of 1942. Following her education, she taught in a rural school near Montezuma. On August 11, 1944, she was married to Frank Farrell in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple was the parents of three sons, Frank, Bill and Joe, and they lived in Cedar Rapids and Davenport. The couple divorced and she moved to Grinnell. On March 27, 1955, she was married to Carmen (Cocky) Wilson in Omaha, Nebraska. They were the parents of two sons, Jack and Rod and they resided in Kellogg and Grinnell. She stayed busy as a mother, homemaker and she worked at various businesses in Kellogg and Grinnell. Norma was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Grinnell Fire Department Auxiliary and she enjoyed needlework, crafts and solving crossword puzzles. She was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and she enjoyed following local sporting events. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Frank and Margaret Farrell of Winchester, California, Bill and Brenda Farrell of Grinnell, Jack Wilson of Riverside, California and Rod and Lisa Wilson of Sierra Vista, AZ; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; seven sisters, Doraldine Edstrom of Omaha, Nebraska, Anna Belle Robison of Cedar Falls, Donna Collum of DeWitt, Iowa, Patricia Clark of Kellogg, Nancy Ogden of Texas, Lila McCammant of Grinnell and Linda Patten of Grinnell; and three brothers, Wayne Patten of Brooklyn, Ed Patten of Lebanon, Missouri and Jim Patton of Brooklyn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one son, Joe Farrell. Memorials may be directed to the Hazelwood Cemetery Landscaping Fund or to the Grinnell Fire Department's Auxiliary.
