Obituary

Norbert was born on September 1, 1934, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Walter and Hannah Beyer Wenzel. He was raised in Milwaukee, attended the Concordia School, and received a B.S. Degree in education from River Forrest College in Illinois. On July 14, 1956, he was married to Alice Meyer in Bach, Michigan. The couple moved to Williamsburg, where he served as both principal and teacher at the Immanuel Lutheran Church for 16 years. Five of those years were at Lutheran Interparish School. From 1974 to 1985 he served as principal and teacher at St. John's Lutheran Church near Victor. From 1985 to 1988 he served St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Yorktown, Iowa. His final years of teaching were from 1988 to 1990 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa. In additional to his administrative and teaching duties he also served many years as both a church organist and choir director. Survivors include his wife, Alice Wenzel of Victor; his children and their spouses, Sheryl and Pat Dermody of Parnell, Gary Wenzel of Montezuma, Debra and Tom Kurovski of Victor, and Denise and Kevin Trueblood of Marengo; nine grandchildren; one sister, Karen Neilson of Peoria, Illinois; and three brothers, Dr. Henry Wenzel of Maplewood, MN, Rev. Elmer Wenzel of Marysville, Washington, and Roy Wenzel of Livonia, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Laura Penne and Eleanor Knauer; and two brothers, Norman and Dennis Wenzel. A memorial fund in his name will be established and sent in care of Alice Wenzel, P.O. Box 412, Victor, Iowa 52347.
