Neta Beason Stewart, 91, of Grinnell died January 21, 2012, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Robert Cook, chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, officiating. Pallbearers will be Bob Christian, Alan, Brian and Scott Cook, Jacob Dunsbergen and Cody Schwarck. Honorary bearers will be Anthony and Dylan Cook, Evan and Gary Santee, Clint Stewart and Ben Schwarck. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to the service (1:00 to 2:00) at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Neta Beason Stewart Memorial Fund. Neta was born August 28, 1920, on a farm in Poweshiek County, the daughter of Floyd M. and Lena Faye Jones Beason. She was a 1937 graduate of Searsboro High School. On September 17, 1938, she was united in marriage to Glenn E. Stewart, in Newton and the couple made their home in Grinnell. They moved to Searsboro in 1946 where she was employed with the Searsboro School District for several years. They returned to Grinnell in 1966 and she was employed at Grinnell College until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of the Westfield Community Church and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge. Neta enjoyed cooking, baking and trying new recipes. She also enjoyed antique shopping, reading, solving cross-word puzzles, gardening and canning her produce. She loved sharing her time with family and friends. Survivors include two children, Richard Stewart of Mesa, Arizona and Mary (Larry) Cook of Grinnell; one sister, Louise Whitehead of New Sharon; six grandchildren, Alan Cook, Scott Cook, Katrina Stewart, Lee Stewart, Stacy Santee, and Cari Christian Schwarck; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Evan, J.C., Lauren, Brittany, Clint, Brian, Anthony, Jacob, Dylan, Cody, Cameron, Faith, and Hope. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Retha Lynch and Maxine Armstrong; and one brother, Max Beason.
