Neal Robert Smith, 53, of Victor died on Friday, May 8, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. As he requested, a private family service will be held at a later date. A memorial fund will be established. Neal was born on July 7, 1966, in Marengo, the son of Merle Robert Smith and Connie Jo (Johnson) Smith. He grew up on his family farm in rural Victor and was a 1984 graduate of HLV High School. He later graduated from Hawkeye Tech, Waterloo, in 1986 with a degree in Farm Management and then later received his CDL training through Hawkeye Tech. Neal was a truck driver for several years as an owner/operator and as a company driver hauling livestock feed, livestock and flatbed freight. He also farmed raising hogs and beef cattle, but his greatest enjoyment came from his horses and his dog, Cordell. He was always very proud of his children and their accomplishments. He first became a father in June of 1988 with the birth of his son, Jon. Neal married Paula Lang at the Madison Church of Christ, Brooklyn, on November 1, 1997. To this union, two children were born, Caitlin and Jack. Neal is preceded in death by his parents and maternal and paternal grandparents. Survivors include Paula, his children: Jon of Clive; Caitlin and Jack of Brooklyn; his brother, David Smith of North English; and nephew, Jonah Smith of North English.
