Naomi Jean Bailey was born the daughter of Clyde Wayne Bailey and Fern (Sadler) Bailey on November 11, 1941, on the family farm north of Keosauqua, Iowa. She attended Mathies country school near Keosauqua. The family moved to Grinnell in 1947 and she graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1958. She was united in marriage to Donn J.
