Memorials: Lynnville Friends Church Myron was born on June 13, 1921 in rural Tama County, Iowa to David Alexander White and L. Nellie Lanning White. His family moved to Grinnell shortly after his birth. He was raised on the family farm southwest of Grinnell, and he was educated at the country school near his home. He graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1939. Myron honorably served in the United States Army 325th Glider Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division from 1942 ' 1945 during World War II. His combat service included the Normandy invasion, Operation Market Garden in Holland, the Battle of the Bulge, and the occupation of Berlin. He was united in marriage to Jean Katherine Garrigan on June 7, 1943 at the Santa Ana Army Air Force Base near Santa Ana, California. Following his active service the couple returned to Grinnell. In 1946, the couple began farming in the Bethel Community southwest of Grinnell. Myron was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and the Lynnville Friends Church, respectively. He was a loyal, fun-loving father and grandfather. He was an outdoorsman who was a steward of the land. His mechanical and welding abilities were appreciated by his neighbors. Personal enjoyments included fishing, hunting, trapping, camping, and traveling. He would take his motor home, boat, and motorcycle to Kino Bay, Mexico, for 5 months each winter, where he particularly relished fishing, playing pool, and socializing with his many friends at Club Deportivo. Myron is survived by his sons, Gary (Elizabeth) White of LaPorte, Colorado, Douglas (Brenda) White of Ames, Iowa, and Edward White of Keosauqua, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, Alexander White of Fishers, Indiana, and Gavin White of Warren, Ohio; and his siblings, Norman (Wanda Lou) White of Ankeny, Iowa, and Lyle (Barbara) White of Tama, Iowa. Myron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jean on September 17, 1987; his brother, Dale White; and his sister, Vivian Graham.
