Roberta M. Hand, 76, of Grinnell, died on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A private family service will be held at a later date. The Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell is handling arrangements. Roberta was born on January 29, 1936, in Grinnell, Iowa. She was later adopted by Harvey and Ina Jones and was raised in Brooklyn. She was a graduate of Brooklyn High School and attended one year of college. On February 16, 1955, she was married to John L. Hand in Tama. The couple lived in Marshalltown and later farmed in Poweshiek and Tama counties. The couple divorced in 1995 and she moved to Missouri. She returned to Iowa in 2010 and has resided at Brookside West in Grinnell. Roberta enjoyed her family, raising flowers, cooking, sewing and watching "The Young and the Restless" on television. Survivors include her children, Chris Hand and Lisa Lasley, both of Grinnell, Mary Brannian of Malcom, Kandie Mooneyham of Jefferson City, MO and John Hand of Hudson, WS; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Victoria Hand; and one granddaughter, Mary Melissa Brannian.
