Paula A. Porter, 66, of Grinnell, died on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Grinnell Christian Church with Rev. John Epperson officiating. Casket Bearers will be Dale Clayton, Anthony Clayton, Brett Clayton, Dominick Clayton, Gary Wilson, Dan Agnew and Dr. Ron Hauser. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell beginning 12 noon on Wednesday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice. Paula was born on May 8, 1947, in Grinnell, Iowa to Paul and Hazel Waltersdorf Wilson. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1965. She also attended the University of Iowa and later she received a degree in dental assisting in Minnesota. On November 24, 1968, she was married to Stuart Porter in Grinnell. The couple lived in Grinnell and she worked as a dental assistant and a receptionist for Bauman, Agnew and Cochran Dental Clinic and later for Family Dentistry in Grinnell. Paula enjoyed writing poetry, collecting angels and butterflies and spending time with her grandchildren and her pet dog "Taffy". She was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church and attended breast cancer support group meetings during her illness. She is survived by her husband, Stuart Porter of Grinnell; two children, Mindy (Dale) Clayton of Grinnell and Matt Porter of Grinnell; three grandchildren, Anthony, Brett and Dominick Clayton; and one brother, Gary Wilson of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Karyl Lee Wilson, who died in infancy.
