Eleanor Maxine Ceaser, 94, of Grinnell, died on Sunday, October 20, 2013, at the Grinnell Health Care Center. A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Bonnie Koeppen, Sheridan Methodist Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Steven and Donald Atcher, Daniel Bogart, Timothy Ceaser, William Ledvina and Eugene Van Ersvelde. Honorary bearers will be Gregory Atcher (deceased), Ellen Jantzen, Kenneth Jantzen, and Darrell and JoAnn VanWyk. Burial will be in the Sheridan Cemetery near Grinnell. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sheridan Methodist Church or to the Grinnell Health Care Center. Eleanor, the daughter of Aaron and Helen (Gable) Main was born in Searsboro on November 1, 1918. She attended school at Searsboro Consolidated School graduating with the class of 1936. On December 24, 1939, she was united in marriage with Samuel Ceaser, in Gilman. They had 3 children, Helen, Norma and James. They farmed in Sheridan Township until retirement. Eleanor was a member of the Sheridan United Methodist Church, Sonora Grange, the Ladies Get Together Club and the Sheridan Homemakers. While attending Searsboro High School she loved playing basketball. Her hobbies included dancing; crossword puzzles and was an avid Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed her family very much and attending her grandchildren's school and sporting events. She is survived by her children, Helen (Delbert) Atcher of Marshalltown, Norma (Richard) Brignon of Grinnell and James (Ruth) Ceaser of Toledo; one sister, Irene (Bill) Campbell of Grinnell; her grandchildren, Steven (Pamela) Atcher, Donald (Regena) Atcher, Susan Atcher, Julie (Eugene) Van Ersvelde, Vickie (Daniel) Bogart, Faith (Myron) Hasley, Shannon (Glenn) Ramey, Tim (Heather) Ceaser, Tammie (Adam) Mellies and Jennifer (William) Ledvina; her great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica (Jacob), Nicholas, Katherine, Caroline, Cameron, Josh (Rachel), Jason, Kaitlyn, Braley, Timothy II, Courtney, Brett, Keenan, Dylan, Ashlynn, Dane, Drew, Ayden, Isaac, Tristan, Sara and Olivia; and one great-great-grandchild, Harper. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers Roland, Raymond and Melvin Main; one grandson, Gregory Atcher, and one great-grandson, Brady Bogart.
