Dawn M. Garner, 46, of Grinnell, died on Wednesday at her home.
A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson officiating. Inurnment will be at the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma at a later date.
The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the memorial service.
Memorials may be directed to the Dawn Garner Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home.
She was born on September 22, 1966, in Los Angeles, California to Larry and Carla Baird Shine. She lived in California and Montana before moving to Des Moines, Iowa in 1977. She attended East High School in Des Moines. While living in Grinnell she worked at the Super 8 Motel, the Westside Diner, Pizza Hut and for various nursing homes. She was married to Roy L. Garner on September 1, 2006 in Grinnell. The couple later divorced.
She enjoyed cross stitching, crafts, fishing, camping and horses.
Survivors include her three children, Raymond C. Watkins Jr. of Grinnell, Chris J. Watkins and Malissa M. Burton, both of Newton; seven grandchildren; her ex-husband, Roy L. Garner of Grinnell; one brother, Larry Shine Jr. of Grinnell; and three sisters, Ladema Kephart of Marshalltown, Sharon Nelson of Cedar Rapids and Jackie Shine of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents.
