Obituary

Lloyd Keith "Butch" Grovenburg, 79, of Grinnell, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2013, at the Mayflower Health Care Center. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2013, at the Carman Center of the Mayflower Community. Interment will be at the Rock Creek Cemetery near Grinnell. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell beginning 12 noon on Wednesday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the Lloyd Grovenburg Memorial Fund. Keith was born on October 2, 1933, the son of Dennis William and Ola Belle Conger Grovenburg in Grinnell, Iowa. He served in the Army and was stationed in Alaska from 1955 to 1957, during peacetime. He married Donna Mae Kinnaird on June 21, 1958, at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell. The couple was blessed with two children, Larry and Tammy. They taught their children the value of hard work. Keith was a heavy equipment operator for R.B. Burch and E.M. Duesenberg for 30 years. He was part of the Interstate 80 and Interstate 35 construction crew from 1955 until his retirement in 1988. Keith was a member of the Union of Operating Engineers, Local #234, for 33 years. He enjoyed fishing, stock car racing and drag racing at Eddyville. His passion was building cars, collecting tractors and taking care of his acreage. Keith and his son, Larry, built Keith's 1957 Chevy into a drag car and Keith and his daughter, Tammy, built Keith's 1962 Nova into a drag car. He loved spending time with his granddaughter, Dezarae. Keith is survived by his son, Larry (Lori) Grovenburg of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his daughter, Tammy Britson of Grinnell; one granddaughter, Dezarae Grovenburg of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and one sister Shirley Lillie of Montezuma. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on January 22, 2013; three sisters, Mildred Kester, Helen Strand and Thelma Fisher; and three brothers, Kenneth, Ernie and Dennis Grovenburg.
