Obituary

Mim Peters, 94, of Grinnell, died on Friday, December 31, 2016, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. David Crow, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Grinnell, officiating. Pianist will be Juli Bey. Interment will be at the Lower Blue Point Cemetery south of Grinnell. Memorials may be directed to the Grinnell United Methodist Church and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Mim was born on September 8, 1922, in rural Poweshiek County, near Searsboro, Iowa to Charles and Addie Barnhart Taylor. She was raised on the family farm, attended rural school and graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1940. On October 26, 1941, she was married to Robert (Bob) Peters at the United Methodist Church in Grinnell. Shortly after their marriage, Bob was called to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Mim lived in Grinnell during Bob's military service and raised their children. The family resided in Japan and at various military bases throughout the United States during his military career. Following Bob's military service they lived in California and 1991, the couple moved to Grinnell. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Lady Elks. Mim is survived by her children, Rhonda Whitehead of Grinnell, Steven (Sheri) Peters of Lancaster, CA and Robyn (Mark) Buenz of Prior Lake, MN; seven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Bill Peters; one brother, Fred Taylor; and two sisters, Leone Saunders and Alyce Sarver.
