Mildred Katherine Schroeder was born on February 17, 1932, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Carl Louis and Mary Helen Schmidt Beck. She was raised in Malcom, Iowa, and graduated with the class of 1949 from Malcom High School. On January 15, 1954, she was united in marriage to Norman Schroeder at the Trinity Lutheran Church near Malcom. To this union were born their children: Roger, Rhonda, Michael, Marilyn, Mary, and Max. She worked at the Grinnell State Bank (Malcom office) and helped Norman on the farm. She decided to stay at home and raise their children. After retiring, Norman and Millie moved into Grinnell in 1994. They have spent several winters in Yuma, Arizona. Millie was a selfless person, always thinking of others, even up to her last days. She was a giving woman who welcomed everyone into her family. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, fishing, cards, and dancing. Her garden was always full of flowers and vegetables. She had fun playing bingo. She recently started her own Facebook page so she could keep tabs on her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Lutheran and Presbyterian Churches in Malcom and Grinnell. She was also a member of the Lady Elks, American Legion Auxiliary and the Grinnell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Millie is survived by her husband, Norman Schroeder of Grinnell, her children, Roger (Judy) Schroeder of Malcom; Rhonda (Brad) Braley of Cedar Falls; Michael (Diane) Schroeder of Humeston; Marilyn (Randy) Terlouw of Newton; Mary (Shawn) Sherwood of Brooklyn; and Max (Jerry) Schroeder of Chicago, Illinois; ten grandchildren: Eric Braley, Collin Braley, Alex Schroeder, Lee (Sara) Schroeder, Kayla Sherwood, Jordyn Sherwood, Baylie Sherwood, Mayson Sherwood, Jessica Curry, and Spencer Curry, and one great-granddaughter, Amiah Lint. Also left to honor her memory are her sister, Irene Morrison of Grinnell, and two sisters-in-law, Joan Beck of Fletcher, Ohio, and Ann Beck of Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers---Fred, Walter, Harold, and Paul Beck---and brother-in-law, Don Morrison, and her two sisters-in-law Gretchen and Marie Beck.
