Michael Lee Hudnutt was born the son of Lyle William Hudnutt and Iona Irene (Miller) Hudnutt on February 5, 1948 in Grinnell, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm near Grinnell and he graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1966. He went on to graduate from Ottawa University, in Ottawa, KS where he played football and received a B.A. in Education. Mike was united in marriage to Carol Ann Burnham on August 30, 1969 at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Michael Todd, Heather, and Curtis. Mike operated a grain, cattle, and hog farm west of Grinnell most of his life. Not one to ever shy away from a hard day of work, he also worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation as a snowplow operator. Mike was a longtime member of the Eagles and Elks Clubs in Grinnell. Mike was a proud family man and loved life on the farm and the Green Bay Packers. God blessed him with hard-working hands he used to farm the land, restore old tractors, care for livestock, and work as a carpenter. He held a passion for the game of football and was his sons' biggest fan when they were playing for the Grinnell Tigers and the University of Northern Iowa Panthers. Their sporting events always came first but it wasn't uncommon for him to climb up in the cab of a tractor or combine and put in another full day's work thereafter. The Hudnutt family hosted many Grinnell Tiger Football Togetherness Nights, where Mike loved visiting with the players and feeding them the night before ballgames. Some of his most cherished times were having his grandchildren visit and help out on the farm. Mike will be remembered for his legacy as a farmer, for being humble and living a life of integrity; for being a storyteller, and for his love of family. Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Hudnutt of Grinnell; his sons, Mike (Tiffany) Hudnutt of Phoenix, AZ and Curt (Nikki) Hudnutt of Cedar Falls, IA; daughter, Heather Norris of Newton, IA; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; siblings, Judy Haslow of Escanaba, MI, and Randy (Mike) Hudnutt of Rancho Mirage, CA; and a beloved member of the extended family "Aunt Janet". He was preceded in death by his parents; and his foster brothers, Dennis and Frederick Rook.
