Michèle Parslow of Grinnell, age 92, died in Grinnell Regional Medical Center on Saturday, November 27, 2021. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grinnell. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. The daughter of Charles Milliat and Marie-Thérèse Giraud Milliat, she was born on July 11, 1929, in Grenoble, France. She was educated in Grenoble catholic schools, graduating with a baccaluréat with honors degree, and then at the Université of Grenoble where she received a License d'anglais with distinction. She came to the United States after marrying Morris Parslow of Muskegon, Michigan, on June 20, 1951, in St. André catholic church in Grenoble. The couple lived in Princeton, New Jersey; Chicago, Illinois; and Bayville, Long Island, New York, before moving to Grinnell in 1962. They went regularly back to France to visit family and traveled extensively in Europe, by themselves and on guided tours. From 1980 to 2005, Mrs. Parslow sold UNICEF cards as the local UNICEF volunteer. She was active in Democratic politics and worked for 40 years as an election official. In 1976 she became a member of the Board of the Grinnell Historical Museum, serving as its secretary from 1985 until recently. On foot and by bicycle she took the national census in Grinnell in 1970, 1980, and 1990. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and served as one of its readers. She joined Entre Nous book club in 1964. She got around on a bicycle until she was 82. She enjoyed keeping house and was a good cook who did a lot of baking, always from scratch. She had a gift for writing long and detailed letters. If your name was in the paper, or she saw an article she thought would interest you, you could always count on her to give you the clipping. For six years, after he suffered a stroke and until his death from cancer in 2010, she was her husband's caregiver in their home. She was preceded in death by him and by her siblings: a brother Charles (Françoise) Milliat of Le Touvet, France; and two sisters, Domique de Muyser of Luxemborg, Luxemborg; and Marie-Christine Milliat of Paris, France. Survivors include her children, Peter Parslow of Portland, Oregon; Dr. Tristram Parslow (Dr. Carolyn Katzen) of Atlanta, Georgia; Catherine Kaplan of Chicago, Illinois; and Prof. Christopher Parslow (Christina Trier) of Middletown, Connecticut; and her two granddaughters, Elizabeth Thérèse Kaplan of Chicago, Illinois, and Olivia Trier Parslow of Middletown, Connecticut. According to her wishes she was cremated and buried beside her husband in Hazelwood Cemetery. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell on [ a future date to be determined], with private interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to the Grinnell Historical Museum in Grinnell, Iowa, or to the Morris Parslow Prize in French at Grinnell College, Development and Alumni Relations, Grinnell, Iowa.
