Michael D. Kriegel, 73, of Grinnell, IA passed away on March 20, 2025, at St. Francis Manor.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 27, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grinnell, IA. A graveside service with military rites will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery following the Funeral Mass. A luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall back at St. Mary Catholic Church following the graveside service.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, IA.

Michael was born on January 11, 1952, to Robert E. and Billy Mae (Niner) Kriegel in Grinnell, IA. Michael was raised in Grinnell and graduated with the high school class of 1970. He got a job out of high school working for WenCo Windows. In 1972, he completed basic training and then was enlisted in the Air National Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1978. During his time in the Air National Guard he worked for Van Wyk freight lines for 36 years, and Panama Transfer for 5 years.

On March 25, 1972, Michael was united in marriage to Cindy Oltrogge at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grinnell. To this union the couple had two children, Scott and Staci.

Michael enjoyed gardening, mowing, riding his Harley trike, leather work, and tinkering. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a long time member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy, his son, Scott (Tabitha) Kriegel, his grandchildren, Abigail Kriegel, Brady Moore, Blaine Kriegel, and Alyssa Kriegel, his siblings, Bobbie (Ed) Heishman, Steve Kriegel, Tom (Karla) Kriegel, Jan (Jim) Graham, and Julie Kriegel.

He is preceded by his parents, and his daughter, Staci Shepard.
