Michael George Anderson, age 76, of Grinnell, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Mayflower Health Care Center in Grinnell.

Michael "Mike" Anderson was born on April 30, 1950, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Eldon George and Anna (Gaydos) Anderson. He attended school in Collins and graduated from Baxter High School with the Class of 1968.

On May 7, 1971, Mike was united in marriage to Sheryl Wallis in Grinnell. The couple made their home in Grinnell, where Mike built a long career as an independent truck owner and operator. Throughout the years, he leased with Ace Lines, Juel Truck Lines, Classic Carriers, Cenco, Denny Burgess, Tim Hoien, and Heartland Coop.

When he wasn't behind the wheel of his semi, Mike enjoyed working on model trains. He especially loved spending time with his faithful canine companions, Toby and Pookie, the later of whom logged countless miles riding alongside him in the truck. He was a man of quiet faith.Mike is survived by his wife, Sheryl of Grinnell; children, Eric Anderson and Jaunita Anderson; brothers-in-law, Paul Spearing of Unionville, MO, and Gary (Marilyn) Wallis of Fairview, TX; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Phil) Cram of St. Johns, FL; and nieces and nephews; Kelly McCullough, Scott Wallis, Whitney Forster, and Ryan Cram and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elizabeth and her husband Bobby Barrickman, and Emily Spearing; and nephews, Robert Spearing and Chris Barrickman.

Smith Funeral Home is assisting with cremation and a graveside service will be held at a later date at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
