Merle L. McCoy Jr., 85, of 4213 West Lakeshore Drive, Brooklyn, died on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2014, at the Holiday Lake Community Center with Dorothy Banzhaf officiating. Inurnment will be Maple Hill Cemetery near Montour. The Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell is assisting the family with arrangements.

Merle was born on Friday, August 3, 1928, in the Indian Village Township near Tama, Iowa. The family lived in Montour, where he was raised and educated. He graduated with the Class of 1946 from Montour High School. Following his education he served with the United States Marine Corps in the Seventh Engineer Battalion.
He was married to Marilyn Wolf and to this union was born three sons, Steven, David and Douglas. The marriage to Marilyn later ended in divorce.
In 1953, he was united in marriage to Patricia Simmons in Marshalltown and three daughters were born to this marriage, Pamela, Kim and Susan. The couple lived in Montour and in 1977, they moved to Holiday Lake near Brooklyn. He worked for Fisher Controls, Inc. for many years.
Merle enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, boating and riding his golf cart around Holiday Lake. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include his children, Pamela Allert and Susan McCoy, both of Holiday Lake, Steve McCoy of North Liberty, IA, and David McCoy of Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren; and three sisters, Shirley Bloom of Laurel, IA, Norma Hensing of Marshalltown, IA and Sandy Doane of Marshalltown, IA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his parents; one son, Douglas McCoy; one daughter, Kim McCoy; one grandson; and one brother, Max McCoy.
