Melvin Louis Sieck was born on February 9, 1926, the son of Louis F. and Josephine Kriegel Sieck on the family farm in Tama County. He attended rural schools and then helped on the farm. Melvin started truck driving and later, he owned and operated Sieck Trucking. On October 12, 1945, he married Audrey Wells and they had three children; Karen, Diana and Melvin Jr. The couple later divorced. Melvin married Pauline McDonald on July 27, 1963 and they had two sons; Randy and Rodney. Melvin enjoyed working on the farm and on his truck. He liked to go camping and fishing and always loved spending time with the grandkids. He died on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Melvin is survived by his children; Karen (Dale) Reitzler of Polo, Missouri, Diana (Greg) Risbeck of Chariton, Iowa, Randy (Tammy) Sieck of Ireton, Iowa and Rodney (Kimberly) Sieck of Grinnell, Iowa, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and his brothers; Lloyd (Shirley) Sieck of Grinnell, Iowa, Wayne (Saundra) Sieck of Amarillo, Texas and Ronnie (Margaret) Sieck of Grinnell, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pauline, on April 6, 2007, his son Melvin Louis, Jr., who died in infancy, and one brother, Paul Sieck.
