Maurice 'Mike' Keenan, 81, of Grinnell died November 22, 2006, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services for Mr. Keenan will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice. The son of Thomas Patrick and Harriet Mae Watson Keenan, he was born January 11, 1925, in Grinnell. He was raised in Grinnell and received his education in the Grinnell School District. At the age of 15, he began working for the railroad and later was employed for a local camper manufacturer and as a hired hand for a local farmer. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II and served as Staff Sergeant in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was awarded a Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman's Badge for his actions on Okinawa. Upon his discharge in 1946, he returned to Grinnell to make his home. He was employed at Donaldson's in Grinnell and later Grinnell Miracle Recreation Company. While at Miracle he was in charge of the special projects division. He retired in 1985. On June 18, 1960, he was married to Colleen O'Hara, in Marshalltown. Survivors include his children, Melody Montgomery of Grinnell, David Carlson of Lynnville, Thomas Crew of Keokuk, and Michelle Sears of Grinnell; one sister, Lois Olson of Harrison, Montana; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Vincent 'Denny' Keenan and Bernard Keenan.
