Matilda Ruth Morrison was born on December 17, 1907, the daughter of Frank and Ethel Pearce in Grinnell, Iowa. She was the second of nine children. Matilda was a country school teacher in Grinnell for a short time and then married her Grinnell boy friend, David Morrison. They moved to California to raise their three girls; Marilyn, Nancy and Susanna. Matilda was very active in the community - Parent Teacher Association, Girl Scout leader and she loved to garden. Matilda died on September 16, 2007 in San Gabriel, California. She was 99 years old. She is survived by her three daughters, Marilyn Keiper, Nancy Shiershke and Susanne Kotchnik; two sisters, Gladys Keller of Florida, Ethel Mae Morrison of Minnesota; and one brother, George Pearce of California. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and five siblings; Bill, Wilma, Loren, Myrtle and Martin. Memorials may be directed to the Westfield Church or to the Westfield Cemetery Association.
