MaryAnn Hudnutt, 92, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 8, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grinnell. The family will receive friends at the visitation held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Tiger Scholarship Fund or to UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Hospice and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
MaryAnn was born the daughter of Rudolph George Chyma and Edna Ella (Smith) Chyma on February 14, 1933, in Tama, Iowa. She was raised in Tama and later in Grinnell, graduating from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1950. Following her education, she worked at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance until 1970.
On April 4, 1959, MaryAnn was united in marriage to Ellsworth "Ed" Hudnutt at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grinnell. Together, they farmed together on the family farm near Grinnell, now recognized as a century farm.
MaryAnn was known for her selflessness and resilience, often facing life's challenges with quiet strength and determination. She enjoyed attending church activities, going out for dinner with her neighbors, and being involved in the daily life of the farm she loved.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Guyer and her companion, James Viles of Grinnell; her grandson, Douglas (Amanda) Guyer II of Carlock, IL and their children, Elyse, Wyatt, and Montgomery; her grandson, Kyle (Kendra) Guyer of Sleepy Eye, MN and their children, Finley, Lincoln, Nolan, and Iyla; and her brother, Melvin Chyma of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Ed Hudnutt in 2012.
