Mary F. Rasmussen, age 87 of Marshall, Missouri, died on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the United Church of Christ – Congregational in Grinnell with Pastor Ethan Drutchas officiating. Visitation will be held prior to her service beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Memorials can be given to the Mayflower Human Needs Endowment Fund or to Grinnell UCC-Congregational Church. Mary Frances Parker was born on July 14, 1930, in Manilla, Philippine Islands. Her childhood was spent in Missouri and South Dakota. She graduated from Park College in Parkville, Missouri in 1952. Over the years, she had taught home economics, art, and elementary grades. In 1954, Mary was united in marriage to Russell D. Rasmussen. Russ completed his theological studies in Dallas, Texas, SMU and the served churches in Harlan, Indiana, Arrow Rock, Missouri, Iowa churches in Hiawatha, Olds, Gilman, and Winthrop, Iowa, and Dubois, Indiana. Mary was a member of the Grinnell United Church of Christ Congregational. She was active in the churches Russ served, participating in the choir, Sunday school teaching, and women's fellowship. She was a member of the Historical and Literary Society of Grinnell. Lifetime interests of hers have been gardening, sewing, music, teaching children, and family. Mary is survived by her four children, Kay Wettlaufer (Bruce) of Marshall, Missouri, Mark Rasmussen (Elaine) of, Missouri, David Rasmussen of Newton, Iowa, and Paul Rasmussen (Becky) of Grinnell; four grandchildren, Adam Wettlaufer (Bethany) of Marshall, Missouri, Holly Wettlaufer of Columbia, Missouri, and Trent and Cooper Rasmussen of Oakland Acres, Iowa, two step-grandchildren, Heather Wettlaufer (fiancé, Cory) of Casper, Wyoming, Gabe Wettlaufer (Barbara) of Mountain View, California; and two great grandchildren, Isaiah and Ivan Wettlaufer of Marshall, Missouri, two sisters; Bonnie Janos of Los Angeles, California, Jessie Strauss of Seattle, Washington, and a brother, Don Parker, of Ventura, California. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Russell, and a sister.
