Mary Cretzmeyer Loucks, 97, passed away Friday, March 18, 2022. A funeral mass will be held April 30th at 10:30 AM, St. Mary Catholic Church in Grinnell with private interment following.
A rosary will be said prior to the funeral mass at 9:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grinnell.
Mary was born on August 16, 1924 in Waverly, Iowa to William and Lula Pyer Cretzmeyer. She was married to Guy Thomas Loucks on November 10, 1952.
Mary served with distinction as Bremer County Iowa County Clerk of Court elected from 1944 to 1956 retiring mid-term in 1957 to raise a family. At the time, Mary was the youngest female elected public official in the state of Iowa. She was employed as an executive assistant at Miracle Recreation Company for many years in Grinnell.
Mary was proud of her pioneer heritage as the descendant of some of the original settlers of Waverly, Iowa. She was able to indulge her life-long interest in traveling, destinations included several European countries, Mexico and the United States. Mary was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Marian Study Club and the Grinnell Country Club and an enthusiastic Iowa Hawkeye fan. She also belonged to several bridge clubs and was an avid golfer.
Mary is survived by her family. Children Anne Loucks, Dr. Carney (Laura) Loucks, Thomas Loucks, Jane (Pat) Fleming; grandchildren Dr. Jennifer (Chris) Loucks Buren, Ryan (Kyla) Loucks, Spencer Loucks, Nathan Loucks, Adam (Emily) Fleming, Matthew (Whitney) Fleming and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, and siblings Agnes, Florence and Wayne Cretzmeyer, Frances Berry and Catherine Bohr.
Memorials in Mary's memory may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church and sent in care of Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
