Mary B. Hatch, 80, of Grinnell, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell with her daughter and husband by her side. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2017, in the Carmen Center of the Mayflower Community. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mayflower Community. Mary was born on August 3, 1936, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Merold Leroy and Mary Emily Wood Williams. The family moved to Canadian, Texas, where she spent her youth and graduated from high school in 1955. On January 26, 1958, she was married to Robert Hatch in Canadian. The family moved and traveled extensively around North America, as her husband was a geophysicist in the oil industry. Mary became a minister for the United Church of Christ later in life, and loved writing and delivering thought provoking sermons with an academic interface of poetry and writings from many sources. She retired from the United Church of Christ in Riceville, Iowa, and was very grateful for her experience with those sweet people that honored and loved her son. She served other congregations in New Hampton and Ionia, Iowa as well as churches in Kansas. Mary loved the beauty of nature and the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. She saw beauty out her window every day, and thrilled at the trees and especially the sunshine. She was an excellent and prolific artist (htt://marillhatch.blogspot.com/). Mary also participated in singing choirs most of her life and sang most recently with the Charles City Singers. Survivors include her husband, Robert; her daughter, DeAnna Hatch of Mitchell, South Dakota; and two grandchildren, Luke Haynes and Micala Smith. She was preceded in death by her son, Merle Michael Hatch.
