Mary Martha Innis was born the daughter of Tilford Bell Innis and Mary Elizabeth (Koger) Innis on November 3, 1924 at her parents' home in Grinnell, Iowa. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1942. Mary was united in marriage to Robert T. Butler on September 19, 1942 at her grandparent's home in Grinnell. They were blessed with five children: Robert, Martha "Becky", Daniel, Stephen, and Matthew. They raised their family in Grinnell and Malcom. Her husband Robert died in an accident on November 12, 1966 in Newton, Iowa. Mary later met Francis Loupee and the couple was united in marriage on September 5, 1971 in Newton, Iowa. They moved to Rock Creek Lake in 1980 and lived there until Francis died on April 1, 1989. Mary moved back to Grinnell shortly after Francis' death and lived there until her health declined, when she moved to Altoona to live with her daughter Becky and her husband Joel. Mary's family was her greatest blessing. She held a strong faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ and was a longtime member of the Grinnell Christian Church, where she attended bible study. She found joy and pleasure in everything she did in life, but most of all through her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her other enjoyments included cooking, reading, knitting, going on hikes, sending birthday cards to her friends and family, and going shopping. Mary will be remembered as the soul of her family, for being authentic, optimistic, and selfless, and for enjoying a candy bar or two. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, friend, and surrogate grandma to many. She was a blessing to all who knew her. Mary is survived by her children, Bob (Karrol) Butler of St. Paul, MN, Becky (Joel) McCarty of Altoona, Dan (Pam) Butler of Yukon, OK, Steve (Priscilla) Butler of Altoona, and Matt (Melissa) Butler of Newton; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sister, Rachel Crawford of Grinnell; sister-in-law, Norma Innis of Grinnell; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Butler; husband, Francis Loupee; and siblings, Russell Innis, Harold Innis, Hazel Innis, Ruth Burr, Berneice Williams, Charles Innis, and Junior Innis.
