Mary L. Arthur, 78, of Grinnell, died July 14, 2017, at the Grinnell Health Care Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 17th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson, Grinnell Regional Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Pallbearers are Luke, Jake, Ben and Hank Bailey and Caleb and Dereck Kriegel. Honorary bearer is Michael Murray. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery near Grinnell. Visitation with the family present will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Mary L. Arthur Memorial Fund. Mary was born January 18, 1939, on her grandpa Walker's farm, south of Grinnell, the daughter of Cyril and Phyllis Walker Arthur. She grew up on her folk's farm, south of Grinnell, and attended Washington #4 country school and later Grinnell schools. On July 21, 1956, she was united in marriage with Marty Garr, at the Oak Grove Church, southeast of Grinnell. To this union three children were born, Randy, Marla and Kathy. Mary was employed at DeLongs Sportswear and the Mayflower Community Health Care Center. She enjoyed cooking, baking and decorating her home. She loved to entertain and family members and friends were always welcome. She was loved and will be missed by many. She is survived by three children, Randy (Denise) Garr of Fenton, Iowa, Marla (Neil) Criswell of Titonka, Iowa and Kathy (Bill) Bailey of Grinnell; one sister, Sharon (Keith) Koger of Grinnell; six grandchildren, Luke, Molly, Jake, Ben and Hank Bailey and Michael Murray; and seven great-grandchildren.
