Marvin Leroy Stoker, 84, of Grinnell, died on August 15, 2021, at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A memorial reception and luncheon is planned for Saturday, August 21, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at the Grinnell Christian Church in the Family Life Center (gymnasium) with the family members in attendance to receive friends. Interment will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, with prayer led by Pastor John Epperson.

Marvin was born on November 9, 1936, at the family home, north of Grinnell. The 9th child of 11 to George Stoker and Edith Cheney Stoker. He was a graduate of the Class of 1954 of Grinnell High School. Marvin grew up as a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church with his family. He was active in 4-H, and showed sheep at the Poweshiek County Fair.
Marvin served in the Army Reserve, from 1958–1962. He bought his current family farm in 1964, while in partnership with his brothers Donald and Robert Stoker. In the meantime, the partnerships have dissolved. Marvin farmed his own farm until 1985, after the farm crisis, he went to work for Chief Alfa in Grinnell. Later he worked part-time for Key Coop, until he retired in 2014.
Marvin and Janna (Lang) Stoker married on August 24, 1973, at the Grinnell Christian Church. Then Marvin became a member of the Grinnell Christian Church. Three children were blessed to this marriage: Jarin, Jill, and Micah.
Marvin was a Main Door Greeter at the Grinnell Christian Church for many years. He enjoyed farming with his John Deere equipment. He had his father's Oliver 66 Row Crop Tractor restored and still owns it. He enjoyed raising Simmental and Salers cattle, and helped his children raise sheep and cattle for 4-H. He was a Jasper County Farm Bureau member for many years, and served as director for the Hickory Grove Township for a few years. In 1980, he was awarded the Commercial Beef Producers Award given by the Iowa Beef Improvement Association, along with his brother Donald.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janna Stoker of Grinnell; children, Jarin Stoker of Grinnell, Jill Stoker of Des Moines, and Micah Stoker of Norfolk, NE; granddaughters, Olivia & Harper Stoker of Norwalk, IA; and siblings, Helen Bakkie of Des Moines, IA.; Russell Stoker of Grinnell, Doris Anderson of West Des Moines, IA, Millie Graham of El Toro, CA, Donald Stoker of Grinnell, and Robert Stoker of Cresco, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Clarine Killam, RoseMarie Holman, Melvin Stoker, and Wilma Ziegenmeyer.
