Memorials: Victor United Methodist Church or Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Marvin Donegan Read was born the son of Roy and Freda Donegan Read on May 20, 1928 in Brooklyn, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm near Brooklyn and he attended country schools and Brooklyn High School. On December 3, 1949 he was united in marriage to Perah E. Weisskopf at the Victor Immanuel Church south of Victor. They were blessed with three sons, Allen, David and Gary. They lived on the family farm southeast of Victor and Marvin was a lifelong farmer. Family and farming was Marvin's life. Marvin was a member of the Victor United Methodist Church. He was a passionate farmer who especially liked driving the countryside to inspect the growth of his corn and beans, raising the livestock, and his Allis-Chalmers tractors. He held a special love for his dogs. Marvin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Perah Read of Victor; his sons, Allen (Marilyn) Read of Indianola, David (Julie) Read of Ladora, and Gary (Marlene) Read of Victor; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and his brother, Alvin (Jean) Read of Ames, Iowa. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; and his granddaughter, Michelle Read.
