Martin Wayne
Anderson
November 28, 1956 – April 25, 2026
Martin (Marty) Anderson, 69, passed away on April 25, 2026, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center after a brief illness.
Marty was born on November 28, 1956 in Grinnell, IA, to Wayne Russell Anderson and Naomi Marie (Ferneau) DeHart. He was raised on the family farm on the outskirts of Kellogg alongside his siblings, Tom and Kristy. He attended Newton High School and graduated class of 1976.
Following high school, Marty joined the US Marines, serving a tour in Japan and then enlisting in the reserves. He was honorably discharged in 1981, then he moved back to Iowa where he worked several jobs, with the most meaningful being an assembly worker for Maytag, until they closed. Although this was disheartening, he took it as an opportunity to go to college and obtain a degree in Industrial Maintenance.
Marty's life took a dynamic turn in August of 2004, when he met the love of his life, Cindy Charboneau. They quickly married on June 25, 2005, at his family's farm in Kellogg, IA, as they did not want to waste any more time apart. This marriage came with a package deal, adding Cindy's 2 children to the mix, giving Marty the title of Step-Father, and later grandpa.
Throughout life, Marty was known for his love of his family farm, and all things farming. He had a love for tractors, especially International Harvesters, and the act of farming itself. He also loved Westerns, History, his fully restored '69 Chevy C10 pick up (Cherry red) and his resurrected tractor that he would take his grandsons for rides on. Both the tractor and pick up truck were often a part of local parades. Marty was a fan of general sports, preferring college over pro, with the Iowa State Cyclones but also the Green Bay Packers.
Marty is survived by his wife Cindy, his children, Curtis (Lori) Sturms Jr. and Cindy (Chris) Davis, his grandchildren, Austin, Devin and Marreck Sturms, and Darren and Brett Davis, his siblings, Tom (Theresa) Anderson, and Kristy (Dan) Jensen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Naomi, and sister-in-law, Barbara Anderson.
The visitation and funeral services will be held on May 1, 2026 at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, IA, Starting at 9:00 am for the visitation and 10:30 for the funeral service. There will be gravesite service Immediately following in funeral procession to Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg, IA.
