Marjorie M. (Billman) Mikles, 83, of Grinnell, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at her home. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 22nd, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson, Grinnell Regional Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Pallbearers are Doug Cline, Eric and Dylan James, Shawn Mikles and Michael and Mark Ewing. Honorary bearers are Paul Slycord, Del Turner, Bob Gray, Christian Waldemer and Lexi James. Burial will be in Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21st, at the Smith Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be designated to the Marjorie M. Mikles Memorial Fund. Marjorie was born on September 15, 1934, in the small rural township of Green Mountain to Fred and Bernice Hall Billman. She was a 1952 graduate of Grinnell High School. She was very gifted in art and music. She sang in choir and glee club, played piano and guitar, and was involved in school theatre. On August 14, 1955, she was united in marriage to Doyle Mikles, at the United Methodist Church in Grinnell. Marjorie worked as a bookkeeper at a local Grinnell hardware store. In 1957, the couple moved to Olympia, Washington, where Marjorie worked at the newspaper office while Doyle was stationed in the army there. The couple returned to Grinnell after his service where she started working for Grinnell Mutual until she quit her job to raise their two children, Randall and Lora. While raising her family she did home child care, worked with Campfire Girls, and was a den leader for the Cub Scouts. She later worked at the Grinnell College Health Center before returning to Grinnell Mutual in 1977 as a billing representative. She retired in 1999. Marjorie enjoyed simple pleasures; bird watching, caring for pets, playing the piano, singing, reading, solving cross-word puzzles, and most of all painting. She was a very talented artist. She loved taking painting classes and painted gifts for many friends and family members. Marjorie is survived by her husband, Doyle of Grinnell; a son, Randall Mikles of Grinnell; a daughter, Lora (Alan) Cline of Grinnell; two grandchildren, Doug Cline and Krystle (Eric) James; three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Lexi James and Christian Waldemer; her brother-in-law, Ronald (Linda) Mikles and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Cecil and Leonard Billman; and her sisters, Mildred Turner, Maurine Slycord, and Doris Eaton.
