Marilyn was born the daughter of Earl Wilfred Swanson and Sylvia Irene Richardson on June 12, 1925 in Cambridge, Iowa. She was raised and attended school in the White Oak, Iowa area.
She moved to Newton, Iowa at the age of eighteen and worked for Maytag and various businesses in Newton. She was united in marriage to Ray Gerald Anderson on March 24, 1944 in Louisville, Kentucky. The couple was blessed with five children, Ronny, Dennis, Mary, Marcia and Terry. She later worked at Holland Plastics in Gilman and assisted Ray with the family farm operation.
She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church. Through the years, Marilyn and Ray traveled throughout the United States. Marilyn enjoyed gardening, going to the casino, writing in her daily journal, listening to Polka music, visiting with family & friends, going out to eat, and watching 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' game show on TV.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Ronny (Kathy) Anderson of Pella, Iowa, Dennis (Stella Mann) Anderson of Grinnell, Mary (Steven) Armstrong of Covington, Washington, Marcia (Ron) Iverson of Grinnell, and Terry (Beckey) Anderson of Grinnell; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; her brothers, Freddie (Ramona) Swanson of Newton, Iowa and Donald (Doris) Swanson of Warsaw, Missouri; and her sister, Minnie (Robert) Etter of Melcher, Iowa.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray G. Anderson on January 9, 2003; her infant grandson, Michael Anderson; and her daughter-in-law, Sharon Anderson on December 24, 2002.
