Maria E. Dutton, age 70, of Grinnell, died on Friday, December 14, 2012, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center with her family and good friends by her side. A celebration of her life will be held 2:30 p.m., Thursday, December 27, 2012, at the Station Clubhouse in Grinnell. Memorial contributions may be designated in her name to the Station Clubhouse, Grinnell-Newburg Dollars for Scholars, and to the Poweshiek Animal League Shelter (PALS). Maria was born on February 20, 1942, in New Rochelle, New York. She was raised and educated in New Rochelle, New York and Los Angeles, California respectively. On January 24, 1967, she was united in marriage to Kent C. Dutton in Los Angeles, California. The couple lived in Oregon, New Mexico, Wyoming, Washington and Colorado before making their home in Grinnell in 1998. Maria was a very loving and caring person who spent much of her life helping the youth. She was a police officer in New Mexico for several years and a counselor for adolescents in Wyoming. She held a special love for animals, especially her dog Cookie. Her enjoyments included going shopping, hunting, fishing, and bowling. Maria is survived by her husband Kent C. Dutton of Grinnell; her children: Danny, Richard, Gloria, Francis, Teresa, and Connie Antaveros, all of Los Angeles, California; sister, Helen Marcum of Grinnell; brother, Tony Delucca of Sykesville, Maryland; several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Cookie.
