Obituary

Margaret was born on June 23, 1919, in LaFlech, Saskatchewan, Canada to Leonard and Margaret Wright Truman. The family moved to Iowa and she graduated from Grundy Center High School with the Class of 1937. She received a teaching certificate from Iowa Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. After her education she taught in rural schools near Grundy Center and Montezuma. On December 25, 1945, she was married to Ray Al. Thompson in Lancaster, Missouri. She worked as a bookkeeper for Bohstedt Real Estate Company and later for the Department of Human Services. She retired in 1991. Margaret was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church, the Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Newton, the VFW, Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary, and Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge in Grinnell. She enjoyed needle work and socializing with friends. Survivors include one daughter, Louann Heinle of Laurel, Iowa; three sons, Kenneth R. Thompson of Laurel, Delbert Thompson of Dothan, Alabama and William J. Thompson of Newton; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lyle Truman. Memorials may be directed to the Grinnell Christian Church. The family will receive relatives and friends for lunch at the Grinnell Christian Church following the service at Hazelwood Cemetery.
