Margaret A. Gruhn, 97, of Grinnell died January 30, 2008, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. A graveside service and burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2008, at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom with the Rev. William Reynolds, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, presiding. Pallbearers will be members of the family. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice. The daughter of Paul J. and Ollie Neubauer Wiese, she was born October 8, 1910, in Porstmouth, Iowa. She later moved with her family to West Liberty, where she was a 1928 graduate of West Liberty High School. On December 20, 1928, she was married to Donovan Gruhn, at Rock Island, Illinois. The couple lived in Malcom prior to moving to Cedar Rapids, where she made her home for 52 years. She was employed at Quaker Oats and at a local drug store for several years and then farmed and raised livestock on an acreage southwest of Cedar Rapids. She moved to Grinnell in 1987 and had been a resident of St. Francis Manor since 2006. Margaret knew the value of hard work while active with the daily chores on her acreage. She enjoyed gardening, canning her produce, and letter writing to family members and friends. Survivors include one daughter, Joan Krohn of Indian Head Park, Illinois; two grandchildren, Karen Krohn of Countryside, Illinois and Gary Krohn of Little Rock, Arkansas; one brother, Jim Wiese of West Liberty; two sisters, Kay Elder of Burlington and Blanche Robertson of Malcom; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1983; a son, Donald in 1940; one brother, Paul Wiese; and one sister, Marie Walker.
