Lyle was born on January 5, 1921, in Lime Springs, Iowa, to Leonard Morris and Margaret Amber Wright Truman. The family moved to Montezuma, and he graduated from Montezuma High School with the Class of 1940. During World War II, he served with the military police in Panama. Following the war, he returned to Montezuma and worked in various businesses in the area. He moved to Shaunavon, Sask., Canada in 1960 and worked in the wheat farming business. In 1979, he moved to Grinnell to be near his family. Lyle was a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, the Eagles Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Shrine, and the Royal Canadian Legion, and he had served various offices in these organizations.
He is survived by two daughters, Joyce Guest of Ottumwa and Judy Ryan of Friend, Nebraska; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Thompson of Grinnell; nieces and nephews, and his dear friends, Ellen Jantzen and Don Stoker, both of Grinnell.
Lyle died on Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell. He was 84 years of age, and he was preceded in death by his parents.
